The First: Book 1, Eden’s Hell
In the beginning… God created man and called him Adam, a fine specimen replicated in his own image. He then created woman to ease Adam’s loneliness and named her Lillith. Unfortunately, God realized his mistake too late in giving woman free will, for she would rule her domain—not man. When Lillith left Adam, God created another for his first-born son, and gave her the name Eve and a kingdom called Eden, but by then it was too late, for he’d unleashed Hell into the world of man.
“Make love to me.”
Addison jerked back, stunned. Tears shimmered off her flawless cheeks, her crystal eyes darkened by smudged makeup. She’d lowered the mind barrier and forced her thoughts into his head with such intensity and ease it was if she’d done it forever. Addison protected his thoughts with a tenaciousness unlike any other vampire, and he did so to protect himself from Satrina, but Eva breached his barriers so easily.
“If you win…I mean, when you win, you can feed from me if you want. I’ll be your p-p-et.”
Disgusted, he jumped to his feet. “Never!” How could he tell her now? She was condemned either way.
Eva looked up, her mouth trembling. “Then take me back to Satrina. I-I’ll do whatever she wants. Please, Addison. I can’t let you go through this. I’m not worth it. If this is our last night together…”
He stared in disbelief and reacted before thinking. He picked her up, cradling her like a child in his arms and leaned so near their lips almost touched. “She will never have you, Eva.”
“Will you, Addison?” She lowered her gaze.
He lifted her chin with his forefinger. “I would make love to you for all eternity, but tonight, I will make it feel like forever.”
Her hot breath caressed his face as he stared into eyes still glistening with tears. He had envisioned Eva in his arms a dozen different ways, but not like this, not weeping. Satrina had ruined their entire evening, but she would not destroy what he desired most. Her reign had to end.
He flew them down to his chamber and laid Eva across the blankets on the stone bed. Standing at the edge, Addison loomed over her, taking in every breathtaking detail.
“I want to see your face.”
In his haste, he’d forgotten she couldn’t see in the dark, but earlier he had laden the chamber with hundreds of candles. He willed one of the waxy pillars by the stairs to flare and continued until candlelight drenched the room with flickering shadows that danced across her face. He stared, awed by the aura, the very essence that surrounded her body. “You are so beautiful, Eva. Like heaven used to be.”
She studied him as fresh tears trickled down her cheeks. Then he offered himself to her in a way he’d never done to anyone before. Fangs slipped over his lower lip and his face morphed into the beast residing in his soul. She had to know the true monster he was. To his disbelief, she reached up and ran her fingers through his hair before gripping the back of his neck and bringing his face closer.
He faltered at first, but then brushed her mouth with a hesitant kiss. His world tilted. Not wanting to frighten her further, he retracted his canines and gently placed his lips over hers, savoring the taste of her skin, and for the first time in centuries, not for the want of her blood. The tip of his tongue flicked over her lips, and her excited gasp heightened his arousal. She tasted like she smelled, sweet and innocent. Every nerve in his body tingled. She hadn’t even touched him yet, and he could barely contain himself. He nipped her bottom lip. “Be mine, Eva—only mine.” He groaned as he crushed his mouth to hers not realizing that he swore he would never say those words again.
“I’ve been yours since I woke up on your sofa two nights ago.” Light burst through his being like a birthing galaxy. She loved him! A vampire, a bringer of death…a demon. Fire kindled his soul, and he clung to her, desperate that she would somehow vanish and he’d wake from this fairytale to find it had all been an illusion.
“Make love to me, Addison. Please.”
The length of him throbbed inside his pants and a dampened spot reminded him just how uncomfortable his trousers felt. He had to slow their pace. Sunset was still several hours away, and he wanted this night to last as long as possible. He reluctantly pulled away from the sweetness of her lips. “Would you do something for me?”
She nodded and seductively sucked in the corner of her lower lip.
“Stand and undress for me. I want to remember you for all eternity.”
She slipped out from under him without a moment’s hesitation. Standing a few feet from the granite slab, she lifted her arms and unhooked the halter at the neck. The dress fell like a gossamer cloud to her feet. He took in beauty that surpassed any woman he’d ever bedded, including Satrina. The aura surrounding Eva pulsed with a life all its own, a halo he’d seen once before. His gaze followed the delicate curves of hips accentuated by the ghostly glow around her.
She leaned her head back and trailed her fingers over both shoulders before moving toward breasts that were perfect in every way.
He fumbled with his tie with one hand while the other frantically attempted the buttons on his shirt. Her voice ricocheted in his mind. “Watch me.”
He stopped, awestruck, as her fingertips moved lower and circled her delicate nipples. The dark skin puckered, and he licked his suddenly dry lips.
“Tell me what you want, Addison.”
“You, Eva. Just you.”
She closed her eyes before stepping away from the dress. Her heartbeat thrummed through his veins as if it were his own.
Addison shifted closer to the edge of the bed, his pants straining against his rigid hard on. “Come here.” His usual confident tone teetered. He couldn’t ever remember feeling this nervous before. Fucking was something he was good at, very good at, but making love? Both times he’d done so had been disastrous. Would this union end in tragic heartache, too?
Eva took his hand and placed it just below her left breast. With his fingers a mere breath away from her skin, her body heat emanated into his palm and scorched down his arm to build and explode inside. He watched goosebumps rise along her flesh as she moved his hand to the flat of her stomach, still not allowing him to actually touch her. Eva moaned, low and sensually. Her breath heaved in quick gasps as she released his hand and grasped his shoulders, her nails digging deep into the bone.
